Carretera Austral Part 2: Hornopirén to Caleta Gonzalo

The difficult-to-book ferry.

The guidebook will tell you book this one far in advance. It’s with Somarco. The problem is that you need to provide your license plate, while you must book it before you have your rental car. You can just put “NNNNNN” and go to the ferry office by the pier and change it when you arrive. At least, that’s what I did.

I stayed in the little house on the right. Caleta Gonzalo is pretty fancy, so also book this ahead. But you can camp without reservations in a big yard, too.
